Social Work in Mental Health Care, NMgr.

Master's degree programme Social Work in Mental Health Care comprehensively prepares graduates for the profession of social worker in the field of mental health care with an emphasis on self-experience and self-reflection. The goal is to achieve a level of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, communication and psychosocial skills, organizational skills and disciplinary overview that will enable graduates to be:

fit for professional social work practice at all levels of prevention

eligible for professional social work practice in acute and aftercare for people with mental illness

able to work collaboratively within and potentially lead multidisciplinary teams

participate in the development of community social work within mental health care reform

be able to participate in the development of the field, the profession and interdisciplinary collaboration

capable of their own professional growth and development

critically reflect on the needs of individuals and society in mental health care

participate in destigmatisation

Graduate Profile

The Master's degree programme deepens the knowledge of social and health care professionals in the field of mental health care. The programme responds to the needs arising from the reform of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic and the profile of the study is in line with the services defined in Act No. 108/2006 Coll. on Social Services. The graduate is competent to apply theories, methods and techniques of social work in practice, especially with people with mental illness. He/she is able to reflect on and solve ethical dilemmas and crisis situations arising from social work with the given target group, he/she is able to handle decision-making processes in the exercise of his/her profession. Within the study, attention is also paid to law and management, thanks to which the graduate is equipped with the skills and knowledge to lead multidisciplinary teams.
