Clinical Social Care, Bachelor's Programme

Programme Characteristics

Since the academic year 2022/2023, students have been admitted to the Clinical Social Care programme. At the same time, the implementation of the Clinical Social Worker programme will continue until 2024. The two programmes are nearly identical, differing mainly in their names. The name change is based on legislative amendments. There are also minor modifications in content, scope and the way some courses are completed, but the graduate profile, acquired knowledge, skills and competencies remain the same.

The standard duration of study is three years. The degree programme director is doc. PhDr. David Urban, Ph.D. The programme prepares graduates for the performance of a non-medical healthcare profession without professional supervision, as defined by Act No. 96/2004 Coll. on Non-Medical Healthcare Professions, Decree No. 55/2011 Coll. on the Activities of Healthcare Professionals and Other Specialized Professionals, and the Minimum Education Standard in Social Work of the Association of Educators in Social Work.

Graduate Profile

The graduate of the programme, in accordance with Act No. 96/2004 Coll., Decree No. 39/2005 Coll., and Decree No. 55/2011 Coll., as amended, will obtain professional qualification to perform the profession of clinical social worker and also social worker under Act No. 108/2006 Coll.

The graduate will perform professional activities in the field of social work in healthcare, in social service facilities, and in other institutions and organizations operating in the field of social work. They will work either as a healthcare professional with competencies in clinical social care or as a social worker with competencies in social services. In the role of a clinical social worker, the graduate will be competent to perform the activities specified in Decree No 55/2011, § 9, without professional supervision and indication.

Relevant Professional Titles:

  • Social Worker
  • Clinical Social Worker

Further Information on the Programme

A key criterion is not only the graduates' theoretical expertise but, above all, their practical readiness for employment. Therefore, the study programme focuses on integrating theoretical and practical teaching across individual subjects. This objective is also reflected in the selection of teachers and the structure of the curriculum, with an emphasis on maximizing practical aspects.

Graduates can apply their competencies in positions as social workers and clinical social workers, primarily in the healthcare and social services sectors. They may find employment in government and municipal organizations, non-governmental non-profit and church organizations, such as home care agencies, children's centres (infant care institutions), day and weekly care centres, long-term care facilities, hospitals, social affairs departments, residential facilities for seniors and people with disabilities (homes, sheltered housing), psychiatric hospitals, social care institutions, employment offices, educational institutions in the field of clinical social care, and hospice care facilities.
