Recognition of Courses

Courses completed in previous studies can be recognised based on an application submitted via IS (Information System) and supported by all required documents. A student may only apply for recognition of courses that have not yet been successfully completed or that are not currently registered in their timetable.

The application for course recognition must be submitted electronically no later than the end of the first teaching week of the semester in which the student intends to count the credits.

A student may apply for recognition of:

a) compulsory and elective courses completed during previous studies at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava,

b) compulsory and elective courses completed during previous studies, usually at another university,

c) compulsory and elective courses that are not part of the core profile of the study programme, completed in previous studies in an accredited educational programme at a higher professional school or within k of lifelong learning programme (The degree programme director determines courses that are part of the core profile of the study programme),

d) field placement course from previous studies at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava,

e) previous work experience,

f) foreign language courses.

Attachments to the application for recognition of study courses taken during previous studies at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava are the course syllabus and a transcript of the learning outcomes from previous studies at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava. These attachments are automatically attached to the application by the IS based on the designation of the relevant course taken. The attachments to the application for recognition of courses taken during previous studies outside the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, according to Section 6(4)(b), are the transcript of learning outcomes (original or certified copy) and the syllabus, which the student attaches electronically to the application in the IS. If the student has only a paper copy of the transcript of learning outcomes, he/she shall submit a scan of the transcript to the IS and deliver the original to the Study Department of the College of Polytechnics Jihlava within 5 days of submitting the application. The course must be clearly marked on the transcript of outcomes.

Conditions for course recognition:

a) the course must have been successfully completed no later than five years before the date of application,

b) the course content must have more than 75 % conformity with the course offered at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava,

c) if the course was completed with an exam, then only grades 1 and 2 (on a grading scale of 1 to 4, where 4 is a fail) or grades "A, B, C" (on a grading scale from A to F, where F is a fail) will be recognized.

Recognition of a Foreign language 

The application for recognition of a foreign language studied within an accredited educational program at a university, higher professional school, or lifelong learning programme must include a justification for the request (as per the Methodical Guideline for the Organization of Teaching in Accredited Study Programmes at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, Code: MP No. 4/2022, Page 7/14) and documents proving the achieved language education or proficiency level. The conditions for recognition are governed by Section 2, Paragraph 5. 11) The application is decided by the degree programme director, who may request the opinion of the course supervisor for his/her decision. 12) In the event that the application for recognition is granted, the student will be awarded the appropriate number of credits and a grade of 'Recognised', following the entry into force of the issued Recognition Decision, which will be uploaded to the IS Personal File. 13) In the event that the application for recognition is not granted, the Decision on the matter will be delivered to the student by post to their correspondence address. Once the decision has become final, the student can register the course in his/her timetable. 14) Information on the status of all applications for recognition made by the student during his/her studies at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava is available in the history of requests for recognition.

Conditions for Recognition of Field Placement (courses Field Placement I, II, III, IV, V):

In accordance with Decree No. 39/2005 Coll., § 3, paragraph 7, the length of field placement in the part-time form of study may be reduced by the period of documented practical training completed while studying in programmes for the preparation of the relevant or similar health profession, or by the period of practice of the relevant or similar health profession.

In the event that a student cannot be recognized for field placement according to the above provision, he/she shall complete field placement in full identical with the full-time form of study.

Since the study prepares for the exercise of two professions simultaneously - the profession of clinical social worker (it is a healthcare profession according to Act 96/2004 Coll.) and the profession of social worker (Act 108/2006 Coll.), we are obliged to follow the legal regulations of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. When recognizing field placement, we are obliged to follow the provisions of Decree No. 39/2005 Coll. §3, paragraph 7 as amended (Decree 129/2010 Coll. and Decree 3/2016 Coll.), which stipulates, inter alia, "... the length of field placement in the part-time form of study may be reduced by the time of documented practical training completed while studying in programmes for the preparation of the relevant or similar health profession, or by the time of practice of the relevant or similar health profession...). It follows from the above provision that it is not possible to recognise (shorten) field placement on the basis of studies at a higher vocational school or university which does not have a health care focus or on the basis of employment in homes for seniors or other social services and it is necessary (despite work or study experience in social services) to complete the field placement in full as part of the studies.

If the student meets the above conditions, the application for recognition must be accompanied by relevant documents to demonstrate that the letter of the law is met:

- in the case of a non-medical health professional: a certificate of employment stating the position, the amount of time, the length of employment and a brief description of the work

- when studying at another university or higher professional school: a transcript of study outcomes, course syllabus
